The fan, who is in his 50s, is in a stable condition in hospital, the club has confirmed.

The incident happened near the San Siro stadium, where the match is being played.

A spokesperson for Liverpool said: "We are aware of an incident involving a Liverpool fan in Milan this evening.

"The fan is currently in hospital in a stable condition.

"Our thoughts are with the fan and his family at this time.

"We will continue to monitor the situation and provide updates as necessary."

The incident is not believed to be related to the match.

Liverpool are due to play Inter Milan in the first leg of their Champions League semi-final at the San Siro on Wednesday night.
