Liverpool fan dies after being hit by car in Milan with Champions League ticket in pocket

Devastated family pay tribute to ‘loving’ dad who died in Milano after Champions League fixture

The Reds supporter was with friends at the time of the fatal incident

A Liverpool fan has died after being hit by a car in Milan with a Champions League ticket in his pocket, his devastated family has said.

The man, named as 53-year-old Ian Edward Bellis, was walking with friends in the Italian city when he was hit by a car.

He was taken to hospital where he was pronounced dead, the Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office (FCDO) confirmed.

In a statement released through Merseyside Police, Ian's family said they are "heartbroken".

"We are devastated by the sudden and tragic loss of Ian, a loving husband, dad, son, brother and uncle," the statement read.

"He was a lifelong Liverpool fan and was so excited to be going to the Champions League match in Milan with his friends.

"We would like to thank everyone for their kind messages of support at this difficult time. We ask that our privacy is respected as we grieve for our loss."

The FCDO said it is supporting Ian's family and is in contact with the Italian authorities.

A spokesperson for Liverpool FC said the club was "deeply saddened" by the news of Ian's death.

"Our thoughts and condolences go out to his family and friends at this incredibly difficult time," the spokesperson said.

"The club will continue to offer its full support to Ian's family and will work with the relevant authorities to establish the circumstances surrounding his death."

Ian's death comes just days after another Liverpool fan, 62-year-old Albert Kirby, died after being attacked in Paris following the Champions League match against Real Madrid.

The club has called for an investigation into Albert's death and has offered its support to his family.
